This is My Story
Like you, I am a motorcycle enthusiast.
One day, while pursuing two-wheeled nirvana, I had an epiphany that would forever alter the course of my life. This is my story.
For most of my adulthood, motorcycling was a way for me to escape my busy life as a student and later as a Manhattan banker. Riding a bike could soothe my soul like no other activity.
In the summer of 1989, I left Ossining, New York on a cross-country odyssey aboard my home assembled Ninja 600, hoping to find renewed meaning in life. I was trying to put a personal tragedy behind. The 7,990-mile trip took three weeks, covered 21 states and included eight national parks. It was during a beautiful sunset while traveling from Loveland to Estes Park, Colorado that something amazing happened. For the first time in my life, I had truly found myself. I realized that life is a gift that must be lived in happiness, fulfillment and pure joy. With my new purpose, living made sense again.
So I gave up my 11-year, fast-track banking career to pursue another journey... a journey that eventually led to the creation of ROADGEAR Inc. I started ROADGEAR® with a mission: To offer world-class products at competitive prices to my fellow two-wheeled travelers. After nearly two decades in business, ROADGEAR® apparel and accessories can be found almost anywhere serious motorcyclists get together, and continue to receive accolades from the press and positive evaluations from you, our valued customers. I'm truly gratified by the success the company now enjoys, and I thank all of you for making this possible.
Having come full circle, in 1999 I took my first vacation since starting ROADGEAR®. I rode my trusty Ninja 5,480 miles from Pueblo West, Colorado to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. Crossing the Arctic Circle and wilderness camping, where few people ever venture, was a high I'll never forget. Symbolic of the success I had strived for and achieved with ROADGEAR®, it was an experience to savor. And as I have come to know, only by fully experiencing life's joys can you hope to be able to handle her tragedies.
ROADGEAR's president and co-founder, my childhood sweetheart, best friend, fondest love, adored wife and beloved mother of our two wonderful daughters, Anis, succumbed to cancer in January 2001. We find comfort in a passage from the poet Rumi, "When light returns to its source, it takes nothing from that it has illuminated". In the finest traditions that Anis set for the company, we remain committed to excellence.
I consider myself truly blessed to be a citizen of the greatest nation in the world, the United States of America. Like nowhere else, the United States allows one to dream big while providing an environment where integrity, hard work, commitment and dedication still make dreams come true!
Very truly yours, Mansoor Shafi, CEO ROADGEAR Inc.
"When I die, I shall dance with the angels. And when I die to the angels, what I shall become, you cannot imagine."
